Sligo County Enterprise Board was established in 1993 by the then Minister for Enterprise and Employment with the aim of filling a gap, which had become apparent in the support services for local enterprises.
The Board is part of a nation-wide network of City and County Enterprise Boards. The role of the Board is to provide support for small business promoters in the form of grant assistance, development of company management skills, provision of advice, training, mentoring, counselling and other information, as well as the development of an enterprise culture in the County.
Sligo County Enterprise Board works in close association with Sligo County Council and the Corporation of Sligo as well as statutory and local development agencies in focusing attention on the economic potential and infrastructure of County Sligo.
Each County Enterprise Board represents a partnership between local business, voluntary groups, the social partners (including business and trade union bodies), the state agencies and local elected representatives.
The County Enterprise Initiative complements programmes such as LEADER and the area Partnership Companies working in designated disadvantaged areas. It is built around co-ordinated action to help small business overcome their structural weaknesses.
Sligo County Enterprise Board is located at the Sligo Development Centre, a single point of contact for local development.
