Sligo Company Wins National Business Start-Up Award
A Sligo company, Verus Precision, has clinched a major award for business start-ups.
The award announcement was made by the Minister for Trade and Commerce, Billy Kelleher T.D., at the National Enterprise Awards in the Shelbourne Hotel, which was organised by the County and City Enterprise Boards to celebrate the achievements of Ireland’s micro-enterprises.
Verus Precision, based in Ballinode, was set up in 2008 by Andrew Hodson, Des Forde and Michael Nugent. It provides complete product solutions to large indigenous and multi-national companies, delivering project management, product design, moldflow analysis and metrology services. The company has already built an impressive client list, comprising national and international pharmaceutical, medical and automotive companies.
The CEO of Sligo County Enterprise Board, John Reilly, was the first to congratulate the company, saying: “Although Verus Precision was only set up two years ago, it has quickly gained a reputation as a world-class product design and project management company. With a growing client base and plans to expand its operation, the company is an inspirational ambassador for Sligo enterprise.”
Minister Kelleher presented the overall National Enterprise Award to Sean McNamara and Willie Wixted from ABC Nutrition in Clare and the ‘Export’ Award to Anne Butterly from Easydry in Louth.
The other finalists at the 2010 National Enterprise Awards were Polar Ice from Offaly (Alison Ritchie), VERDE LED from Cork City (Paul Martin and John Keohane), Mileeven Fine Foods from Kilkenny (Eilis Gough and Sarah Gough), Galetech Energy Development Ltd from Cavan (Darren Sherry and Herman Buschotts) and Granite Media Group from West Cork (Conor Buckley).
The 35 County and City Enterprise Boards collectively supported over 26,000 small businesses in Ireland last year, working with companies with ten or fewer employees.
